The scrapping of EU regulations on the shape and size of some fruit and vegetables is a "return to reality", according to Manx Radio's farming correspondent.
It's been announced that produce which for many years would have been rejected for being an odd shape or size will now be allowed back on supermarket shelves.
John Kennaugh (pictured) says policy makers have been "living in the land of plenty" for too long and the amount of food being consigned to incinerators has been scandalous.
He believes many people now have "a real interest in returning to their roots" and the "credit crunch" will force people to be less wasteful:
