Minister sets out CYG stall

Tourism Minister Martyn Quayle says he won’t be committing millions of pounds to host the Commonwealth Youth Games.

The event is due to come to the Isle of Man in 2011, when teams of young athletes from the 71 Commonwealth nations will battle it out in track and field events.

When Pune in India hosted the last games a few weeks ago, it was a lavish affair costing tens of millions of pounds.

Mr Quayle says the Island’s ambitions when it hosts the event are more modest (play attached audio file):
