Wide range of topics on question paper

by isleofman.com 18th November 2008
Members of Tynwald will tackle a varied question paper at today's sitting.

The collapsed bank Kaupthing Singer and Friedlander is up for discussion, along with the new administration in the United States.

North Douglas MHK Bill Henderson will ask about the deposits frozen in the UK after the collapse of the Icelandic bank.

He also has a question asking about future US policy on tax havens and whether contact will be made with the new US Government.

In a closely related question, MLC David Callister will ask what efforts are being made to engage with officials in the US Treasury.

The widely publicised comments made by the UK Chancellor Alistair Darling about crown dependencies will also feature, and Onchan MHK Peter Karran will call for the TV licence fee to be abolished in the Isle of Man.

Members will also consider the future of the Solway Harvester, a review of the Island's planning system and revised freight charges for the Steam Packet.

The sitting starts at 10.30 morning and there will be live coverage on Manx Radio's AM 1368 service.
