The Steam Packet's freight charges are crippling the Isle of Man's farming industry, according to president of the Manx National Farmers' Union, Howard Quayle.
Yesterday, the company said it would be 'reducing' freight costs to its customers, or at least increasing rates but not by as much as the September inflation figure.
The 'reduction' will take effect from the start of next year, and the fuel surcharge will be reduced from five to three pounds a metre from March 2009.
