The political debate over the collapse of Island bank Kaupthing Singer and Friedlander continues to rumble on in the House of Keys tomorrow (Tuesday).
Michael MHK David Cannan will quiz Treasury Minister Allan Bell over the government’s hopes the business could be resurrected at some point in the future.
The provisional liquidator goes to court on Thursday to wind up the bank. The hearing had been adjourned while efforts were made to recover cash frozen by the UK government.
During Keys question time, Mr Cannan will ask what the government’s been doing to avert the liquidation.
Mr Cannan wants to know if the Council of Ministers has taken on consultants to advise how Kaupthing Singer and Friedlander could trade again as a licensed bank.
He’ll also ask what implications that could raise for the Manx taxpayer was well as depositors with the bank.
Up to 10,000 people could lose millions of pounds if the bank is finally wound up on Thursday.
They include the Manx government and the Island’s Hospice – which both had millions of pounds tied up in accounts.
