Champ is put down

Champ, the illegal American Pit Bull, has been destroyed.

The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry put the the dog to sleep late on Wednesday afternoon, after being unable to find a suitable home for him.

His owner Sarah Kneen and her supporters say they'd done everything they could to keep him alive.

One of them, Paul Fisher, says DAFF didn't listen to their arguments, or expert opinions on Champ's breed (audio file attached):
