Wilks Wins Appeal

by isleofman.com 29th November 2008
Next weekend's climax to the British Rally Championship will be a real cliff-hanger after the latest twist in the story.

Yet another change has been made to the result of the last round in Yorkshire.

Mitsubishi driver Guy Wilks won the event but was then diaqualified for a rule infringement at post race scrutineering - arch rival Mark Higgins was declared the winner several hours after the finish.

However, Wilks won an appeal and was reinstated only for a further protest to be lodged.

The original decision to exclude Wilks was then upheld.

The complex matter has now gone to Motor Sports Council National Court. At a hearing on Wednesday, a ruling was made that Guy Wilks was the winner in Yorkshire.

Mitsubishi had made it clear they would withdraw from Wales Rally GB if things didn't go their way.

There are two rounds together next weekend in Wales.

Mark and David Higgins are joint leaders of the British Championship with 78 points, but Wilks is now only two points behind in third place.
