Call for VAT benefit to go to customers

A local businessman is suggesting the lowering by the United Kingdom of the rate of VAT, from 17.5 to 15 per cent, is 'more trouble than it's worth'.

Marketing director of Strand Cleaners and Storall, Andrew Simpson is one of those unimpressed with the size of the reduction, and the fact other taxes have been increased.

Reducing the rate is not compulsory in the Isle of Man and it's being left to individual firms to decide whether to make the change.

But Mr Simpson feels the most important thing is to make sure any benefit is passed on to customers (play attached audio file):
