Manx cycling superstar Mark Cavendish has not been named in the final ten nominations for the B.B.C. Sports Personality of the Year Award.

28 newspapers and magazines nominated their top ten for 2008 with each name counted as one vote for the final shortlist.

Cav was suggested by five publications - The Sunday Times, The Daily Star Sunday, Scotland on Sunday, The Sun and the Belfast Telegraph.

The final ten are swimmer Rebecca Adlington, cyclists Nicole Cooke, Chris Hoy, Rebecca Romero and Bradley Wiggins, sailor Ben Ainslie, athlete Christine Ohuruogo, Formula One Champion Lewis Hamilton, boxer Joe Calzaghe and tennis player Andy Murray.

The winner will be decided during the live show from Liverpool on Sunday 14th December.
