Pregnant woman spared prison

by isleofman.com 3rd December 2008
An 18 year-old woman who assaulted a police officer has been given a four month prison sentence suspended for 18 months by the High Bailiff, Michael Moyle.

Alexandra Bridson of Princess Street, Douglas admitted the offence which was committed in Peel on July 25.

The defendant kicked the officer in the groin as he was arresting her boyfriend.

Bridson's advocate said the defendant, who was now six months pregnant, accepted the matter was extremely serious but pointed out the aggravating factor was that alcohol was involved.

He said the defendant was now seeking help from the drug and alcohol team. She had a difficult time ahead of her and was quite isolated.

Mr Moyle told Bridson had she not been six months pregnant he would have sent her straight to prison.

A probation order, imposed earlier this year, will start again from now, alongside the suspended prison sentence.
