Tynwald to debate Langness 'solution'

by isleofman.com 5th December 2008
Tynwald is to be asked to approve a new Bill which would create a legally established public footpath at Langness for the first time.

It's part of an agreement being proposed by a delegation of members in an effort to amicably settle a long running dispute between land owner Jeremy Clarkson and the protest group PRoWL.

Recommendations in a report, to be debated by Tynwald later this month, also include the appointment of a warden to oversee the peninsula for a period of two years, and a payment of ?20,000 to Mr Clarkson and his wife as a contribution to their legal fees.

Chairman of the delegation, Michael MHK David Cannan says the agreement would protect the Clarkson's privacy as residents of the lighthouse (pictured) and the rights of ramblers, and ?20,000 is a small price to pay (play attached audio file):

Copies of the report of the Tynwald delegation can be obtained at the Tynwald library.
