Tynwald is going to be asked to approve ?400,000 for preparation work to build a new St Ninian's Lower School at Bemahague in Onchan.

Education Minister Anne Craine (pictured) will seek permission to go ahead with the scheme at this month's sitting.

Plans include closing the building in Park Road, Douglas and relocating Key Stage 3 pupils to the new Lower School.

The initial stage would be the enabling phase, involving the removal of hedgerows on the site, and other off-site works.

Mrs Craine plans to bring the main scheme to Tynwald in July next year.

There are three other major capital schemes on next week's order paper, which would require total expenditure of a further ?5 million.

The DHSS wants to spend ?2 million, on phase two of the central community healthcare development.

The work would involve the complete refurbishment of the ground and first floors of the former Jane Crookall Maternity Wing, in Westmoreland Road, Douglas to provide accommodation for non-acute patient services.

The minister for tourism and leisure will explain why his department wants to spend ?1.8 million on the development of new sports pitches at Ballafletcher, Braddan.

And member for Manx National Heritage Phil Gawne will seek permission to spend ?1.17 million to repair and convert the former Government Analyst's Laboratory in Kingswood Grove, Douglas.
