The director of the Island's Communications Commission, Dr Carmel McLoughlin, says the views of local residents will be listened to over future TV coverage.
More than 75 per cent of the people who responded to a recent survey said the Isle of Man would be better served as part of the Granada ITV region rather than the combined Border and Tyne Tees news operations, which are due to merge next year.
Dr McLoughlin (pictured), says while the decision will ultimately rest with Ofcom, it will take the consultation exercise into account.
On Mandate this morning she said:
"While lots of people watch television, it takes a lot more effort to sit down and write either a letter or an email to the commission, putting forward views.
"I looked at the Ofcom website and by Friday they had 80 responses to their public service broadcasting review, so I think achieving a response rate of 120 on the Isle of Man is incredibly respectable.
"The fact that people actually took the time to write and contact the commission shows that feelings are high, and ITV plc say they will have the same news gathering resources even if we switch to Granada, so I'd hope to still see good representation of the Island."
