Academic award for Strix founder

Eddie Davies has been awarded an honorary doctorate by the University of Manchester.

The Isle of Man resident, who co-founded and went on to become chairman of manufacturing company Strix, has received a Doctor of Social Science in recognition of his philanthropy and business success.

Mr Davies (pictured), who was awarded an OBE for Services to Industry in 2000, is the owner of Bolton Wanderers.

He took control when the club needed financial assistance and owns 94.52 per cent of the Premiership club.
