Clean-up after power station fire

by isleofman.com 11th December 2008
A cleaning-up operation has been taking place at Peel power station, following a fire in one of the engines yesterday evening.

It happened at around 5pm, when a split fuel pipe ruptured onto Diesel Engine 4, which was in full use at the time.

The MEA said the fire was automatically extinguished by the "deluge system" at the station, but the water which entered the generating area was expected to take some time to clear away.

Local consumers weren't affected because, at the time, the engines at Peel were being used for export to the United Kingdom, as well as helping meet local demand.
