Strong views on conservation project

One of the Island's top fish producers is calling for greater consultation with the industry over a proposed marine conservation area.

Peter Canipa, who runs Devereau's Kipper Curers and Fishmongers, went along to a recent workshop on the Manx Marine Nature Reserve Project.

The project is being put together by the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry and is seeking the opinions of the full spectrum of sea users, from fishermen to recreational users and conservationists.

Mr Canipa (pictured) says he can't speak for everyone, but feels fishermen need to be better represented in the future (play attached audio file):
