News the contraceptive pill could be made available over the counter is being welcomed by Isle of Man branch of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society.
The scheme is to be piloted in London and is expected to be rolled out throughout in England if it's successful.
It will mean women will no longer need a prescription.
Secretary of the society's Manx branch Charles Flynn (pictured) thinks it's a good idea.
He told Manx Radio:
"We already supply emergency hormonal contraception, there's chlamydia testing, cholesterol testing, all sorts of things going on in pharmacy these days which, of course, relieves the pressure on doctors.
"Suitable pharmacists are accredited for these roles and there are strict guidelines on how it's used.
"It's also welcomed by most of the medical profession, because it relieves their workload.
"It increases the workload of the pharmacists, but that's part of the job these days."
