Big queue for closing down sale

by isleofman.com 11th December 2008
Around 60 people queued outside Woolworths in Strand Street this morning for the start of the closing down sale.

Shoppers in Douglas can expect up to 50 per cent off certain items, with 30 per cent off electricals and a fifth off household products.

The exact date that Woolworths will close is unknown, but it is expected to be before Christmas.

Staff at the Douglas store face an uncertain future after the chain’s administrator said yesterday it had failed to find a buyer.

When Woolies went into administration late last month, it was hoped a buyer could be found for the business.

However, closing down sales are now expected at all the company's 815 stores.

Talks are still underway with other retailers about stores in the United Kingdom, but so far there has been no comment on the future of the company’s Strand Street branch.
