New virus targets Manx bank

by isleofman.com 12th December 2008
Computer experts say they have found a new virus which tries to intercept details sent to banks, including one in the Isle of Man.

Anti-virus firm BitDefender says the software disguises itself as an addon for the Firefox web browser and keeps its eyes peeled for a list of banks.

The company hasn’t named the Manx bank which the software, called Greasemonkey, targets, but says it’s a “very high” threat.

After capturing your details, the trojan forwards the data to a server in Russia.

BitDefender’s anti-virus lab says everybody should make sure they have effective internet security which is updated regularly.
