IBM offers Ubuntu PCs

by isleofman.com 14th December 2008
IBM is hoping to make a killing in the cash-strapped American PC market by offering computers loaded with free software from a Manx-based firm.

The technology giant is to sell an Ubuntu Linux package to US companies through its IT services unit.

IBM says systems built on the open source operating system should cost about half as much as Windows PCs because there are no costs from Microsoft which have to be passed on to customers.

It’s hoping the computers will be more attractive to buyers given the current economic environment.
