Woolworths to close on Monday

by isleofman.com 24th December 2008
The Isle of Man branch of Woolworths will close its doors for the final time on Monday next week, December 29.

Administrator Deloitte has confirmed the news on its website.

The Strand Street store opened in 1924, making it the oldest high street chain on the Island.

Deloitte says it's still looking for a last-minute buyer for the beleagured chain.

But having now given closure dates, between December 27 and January 5, for all 807 of the United Kingdom stores, a rescue package is looking increasingly unlikely.

Shops in the UK have even started to sell off their fixtures and fittings in a bid to pay off the company's debts.
