Jersey has announced it’s looking into setting ferry fares through an independent regulator rather than by Condor Ferries.
The company is owned by Macquarie Bank, which also owns the Steam Packet Company, and a report by consultants Oxera will be considered the States when it’s published next month.
Economic Development Minister Alan Maclean says talks have been held with Macquarie and officials from Jersey have met harbour authorities to look at the way ferry prices are regulated in the Isle of Man.
The senator hopes a regulator would be able to divert political arguments about ferry fares in the future.
