Manx Telecom Recognises Top Achievers

by isleofman.com 27th March 2009

Manx Telecom's recent gala night, which recognises outstanding staff achievement, saw one employee awarded the accolade 'Compliment of the Year.'

The 2008 award went to Susannah Harrison, a member of the mobile sales team, who received a trophy from Manx Telecom Managing Director Chris Hall in front of around 100 guests at the Empress Hotel, Douglas, including Chairman Walter Gilbey and other members of the company’s senior management team.

Susannah’s winning citation came from a customer who had needed ongoing assistance and support after buying a BlackBerry from Manx Telecom’s mobile shop in Douglas. The customer later wrote of Susannah, 'I have spent many years in the service industry and I have not experienced such a quick response and a willingness to go the extra mile. We are often very quick to offer criticism but slow to praise and I think it would be amiss of me not to make you aware of the (in my opinion) jewel in the crown. I trust that her work ethic and efforts are recognised.'

Each month, staff who receive the best formal compliments from customers are rewarded with a sum of money from Manx Telecom to donate to their chosen charity.  Last year, ?1400 was handed out to charitable causes as a result. Manx Telecom gave ?250 to Susannah’s favoured charity, the Borneo Orangutan Society, which aims to prevent the creature’s extinction.

'I am delighted to be the recipient for 2008,' said Susannah, now part of the company’s Fixed and Mobile Product Management Team.

Chris Hall added 'Our success could not happen without the hard work and commitment of every single person in Manx Telecom.  However, as in any team effort, there are always those who deserve individual recognition for their personal contribution and for going that extra mile.'

Also honoured were four members of staff who have given 30 years' service to the company and a further five who have passed the 20 year milestone – a combination of 220 years dedication.  After presenting their awards Mr Gilbey said 'I am immensely proud to see so many staff who work so hard, many of whom have remained loyal to the company over a considerable period of time and to those who are committed to expanding their own technical experience and knowledge. Long service and high achievement help bring great stability to the business.'

Other winners included the Next Generation Network (NGN) Team, who were voted Team of the Year, Val Douglas (Team Player of the Year) and Chris Larkham and Bruce Craig who came up with the Best Idea of the Year. Manx Telecom staff who earned professional qualifications during 2008 were also placed in the spotlight.
