The future business leaders of the Isle of Man are being encouraged to take part in the 2010 Manx Executive Challenge by its organisers, the Chartered Management Institute (CMI), who are now ready to invite applications for the kick-off in September.
The Manx Executive Challenge, held every two years, is now widely accepted as the premier development opportunity for the future business leaders of the Isle of Man. Organised by the Isle of Man Branch of the CMI, the Challenge offers the opportunity to demonstrate senior management potential by working in a team, under the guidance of a business mentor, to address an issue which is topical, relevant and of strategic importance to the Isle of Man.
It offers a combination of real hands-on experience together with support from experienced professionals.
Participants are drawn from a wide cross-section of the Island’s private and public sector community and formed into teams. Each team is allocated a project related to the economy or social infrastructure of the Isle of Man and has eight months in which to research the issue and present solutions which are realistic and capable of implementation.
Each team compiles a report summarising their findings and the competition culminates in the final in May 2010, where the teams present their recommendations to a distinguished panel of judges and an audience of Government Ministers and business leaders.
The Manx Executive Challenge is open to all and formal qualifications are not necessarily required. Applicants should ideally have a minimum of two years' experience within a management environment but more important is the desire and potential to become a senior manager.
Endorsements have already come from the participants in the 2008 Challenge. Inspector Mark Britton, Western Neighbourhood Policing Team, comments 'I would encourage individuals who are thinking about getting involved to do exactly that - go for it.
'Leaders in both the private and public sector should also think about the MEC as a provider of an excellent quality experience which develops individuals. Putting the challenge simply – there really is nothing like it'.
Stuart Ingledew, Senior Manager of Transaction Management with Standard Bank Isle of Man, adds 'The Manx Executive Challenge was an amazing experience from start to finish.
'It was definitely a challenge as the name suggested, but it was also an opportunity; one in which I have made many great new friends, learnt new skills and developed myself through building strong relationships with people from a vast array of working backgrounds.
'The experience allowed me to grow through learning and utilising many new ideas and approaches within a fantastic environment. I thoroughly enjoyed being part of the Manx Executive Challenge and I would recommend to anyone given the opportunity that they participate in it'.
