Pat Cash was the most recent - and very special guest - of the Isle of Man Sporting and Dining Club.
The former Wimbledon Champion was welcomed heartily by the Club, whose past guests have included Betty Boothroyd, Terry Waite CBE and Stella Rimington.
The Melbourne-born tennis star spoke about his eventful life, which has taken in both incredible highs (notably claiming the Wimbledon title in 1987) as well as lows: Cash has been open about his past problems with depression, and drug and alcohol abuse. He is now a successful sports commmentator and family man who remains in demand for public appearances.
The event was organised in association with HSBC and HSBC Securities Services. Caroline Cornish, Head of HSBC Securities Services, commented 'It was another memorable Isle of Man Sporting event, with Pat Cash sharing his experiences of competing with the good and the great of Tennis, enjoyed by all that attended.
'But of equal importance was the generous amount of money donated by those who attended, to Victim Support Isle of Man, who will put the ?2175 raised to good use. HSBC is proud of its association with the Isle of Man Sporting and Dining Club events, which host opportunities for local businesses to network whilst raising awareness and money for local charities'.
John Wannenburgh from the Sporting and Dining Club added 'Having spent the afternoon with the Junior Tennis players at the Albany Tennis Club, Pat Cash proved to be an interesting and engaging speaker in the evening. On both occasions, he was inundated with photo requests, and as such is without doubt our most photographed Speaker!'.
The next dinner, scheduled for Saturday 23rd May 2009, will feature Liberal Democrat Deputy Leader and Treasury Spokesman Vince Cable MP, at the Mount Murray Hotel and Country Club. There is limited availability for this dinner.
