Ramsey Hockey Partnership Renewed

by isleofman.com 29th May 2009

Local Investment Manager and Stockbroker, Collins Stewart Wealth Management, has confirmed their renewed sponsorship of Ramsey Hockey Club.

Over the last four years Collins Stewart has provided financial support for the club to travel to off-island tournaments, maintain kit and enable club members to gain coaching qualifications.

It enabled the Ramsey U13 team to travel to compete in the North Region mini-hockey championship at Belle Vue Hockey Centre in Manchester last month, having qualified for the event by winning the Isle of Man regional tournament. Tournament t-shirts were provided as a memento for all who participated.

This year, sponsorship will provide funding for away tournaments, for the acquisition of new senior and junior goalkeeping equipment and also allow club members to attend England Hockey coaching courses, including VRQ Level 1, VRQ Level 2 and young leader coaching courses to improve the standard of coaching within the club.

Ramsey Hockey Club’s junior coach, Keith Corkill, said that the Club was extremely grateful to Collins Stewart for their continued support.

‘We were first introduced to Collins Stewart when they merged with our then sponsor, Insinger de Beaufort in 2006, at which time we were a relatively small club with two mixed, one mens and one ladies teams. Since then, with Collins Stewart’s commitment the Club has gone from strength to strength.

'We now run four mixed, two ladies and one mens teams and have established a significant junior section with teams competing in U13 and U11 leagues,’ said Mr Corkill.

‘Their support means we are able to provide a better training ground for our younger players. It is fantastic news to hear that they will be with us for a further year.’

The only hockey club in the north of the island, Ramsey has more than 100 members, 70% of which are juniors. A main focus of the Club is the development of junior players under the guidance of qualified coaches. These players are prepared for the Club’s 1st teams, which compete at the top level in Island senior hockey.

Head of Collins Stewart in the Isle of Man, Dermot Hamill said ‘Ramsey Hockey Club is one of the four big clubs in the island, has many talented players and provides a training ground for the Island’s young sports people. Collins Stewart is delighted to be able to help the club in nurturing our local talent.’
