Dickinson Cruickshank Merges with Appleby

by isleofman.com 16th June 2009

Dickinson Cruickshank has merged with leading global offshore Law Firm Appleby. The firm will continue to be known as Dickinson Cruickshank until 1st October, after which time, when the merger becomes official, the firm will be known as Appleby.

Appleby is the first global offshore law firm on the Island and the move will see Appleby emerge as the offshore law firm with the widest jurisdictional reach and the largest offshore firm by number of partners, with 9 offices worldwide, including Bermuda, the British Virgin Islands, the Cayman Islands, Jersey, Mauritius, Hong Kong, London, Zurich and the Isle of Man.

Although Dickinson Cruickshank is becoming a part of a larger international organisation, they will remain a full service law firm, continuing to provide the highest quality of service to local, national and international clients that they have delivered for the last 110 years.

They are as committed to their local clients and working relationships as they have ever been and the merger will only enhance the level of service they provide by facilitating access to the finest expertise and resources from across the globe.

As well as providing a greater level of service to Island clients, the addition of the Appleby Group to the Island’s legal sector will be a huge boost, promoting the Island as a jurisdiction and also demonstrating that it has international presence establishing further credibility as an offshore financial centre. This will be hugely positive for the island, helping to reinforce and elevate the Isle of Man’s status on an international stage.

Former Senior Partner and now consultant Martin Moore (who has been with the firm for nearly 47 years) comments 'Throughout my time with Dickinson Cruickshank, there have been periods of great growth and development and the firm has responded to the changes in the business economy and the legal sector.

'The merger with Appleby is the next natural progression for the firm that has always sought to be at the forefront of legal developments and forward and pragmatic in its approach.'

Senior Partner Paul Morris adds 'We believe that the merger with Appleby, as a global offshore services provider, is not only a first on the island and an invaluable resource for our clients, but it will also provide a huge boost to the Isle of Man’s capabilities, status and reputation in the international offshore sector.

'Appleby’s global reach in the key offshore jurisdictions, its recent expansion through Mauritius into the emerging markets in India, Africa and Asia, and its market leading position in international financial centres, will have a significant impact on the breadth, range and choice of services we are able to offer to our Isle of Man and international clients.'
