Hyperbaric chamber treatment for divers

by isleofman.com 7th July 2009

Two divers are receiving ongoing treatment for decompression sickness at the Island's hyperbaric chamber.

They had been on two separate deep dives on Sunday, down to the wreck of the Liverpool in 40 metres of water, five miles off the south of the Island. At such a depth a Nitrox mix is needed to breathe.

The men reported feeling unwell the next day and were taken for treatment at the chamber, which is the standard procedure in such cases.

Operators of the chamber say it's likely treatment will continue for the rest of the day, but the condition of the divers is not life threatening.

One of the divers, who is a visitor to the Island, is expressing his thanks for the exceptionally prompt treatment he received.
