As part of the Isle of Man Ship Registry’s ambition to expand its register in to the Japanese market, it recently showcased its approach and offering at both the Bari-Ship Maritime Fair and Marine Money’s Tokyo Ship Finance Forum.
With a total of 1034 vessels, totaling just over 10M gross tonnage, currently on the register the Ship Registry is confident of increasing this figure following the Japanese tour.
Bari-Ship Imabari Maritime Fair and Marine Money’s Fourth Annual Ship Finance Forum are both renowned throughout the shipping industry for their ability to attract high calibre companies and professionals.
The Isle of Man utilised this opportunity to conduct a number of meetings, which has generated several interesting leads from leading Japanese ship owners and operators.
Dick Welsh, Director of the Isle of Man Ship Registry, also undertook five press briefings with key Japanese business and shipping publications, including the Daily Maritime Press, the Japan Maritime Daily and Shipping and Trade News.
These leading publications are highly influential and the resulting coverage highlighted the benefits of registering vessels with the Isle of Man including its favourable fee structure, high quality service offering and impressive safety record.
The Hon David Cretney, MHK, Minister for Trade and Industry commented 'The Ship Registry’s presence at both Bari-Ship and Marine Money in Tokyo was important for the Isle of Man.
'This is not only with regard to the Registry’s ambition for the region, but also to the Island’s international standing as a modern, flexible and responsible jurisdiction.
'The Isle of Man forms a centre of excellence for ship management and registration with a framework of services available encompassing legal, financial, insurance and corporate service provision, all within a supportive regulatory environment.'
Dick Welsh, Director of the Isle of Man Shipping Registry, added 'Both the Bari-Ship and Marine Money events were valuable opportunities for us.
'We have seen increasing interest from this region in the last year and this was the perfect opportunity to communicate the great benefits of registering with the Isle of Man and also demonstrate the exceptional levels of service they can expect when dealing with us.
'The events were a great success and we were pleased to have a number of positive leads from them.'
