In association with HSBC, the Isle of Man Sporting & Dining Club was delighted to welcome its most recent guest, Falklands Veteran, Simon Weston O.B.E., to the Isle of Man on Thursday 2nd July.
David Cartmell, HSBC Premier Manager commented, 'The journey Simon has been on is quite awe inspiring and he seemed to have surprised himself at his progression from a squaddie to a motivational speaker.
'Despite his 'celebrity' status, he retains a genuine modesty and friendliness, and holds no bitterness at the cards life has dealt to him.
'I am sure everyone who had the pleasure of seeing him or speaking to him will feel nothing but admiration and respect for this truly great man.'
John Wannenburgh from the Sporting & Dining Club added 'This was Simon’s first trip to the Island, and he was a truly inspirational speaker.
In many ways it was a humbling experience listening to his positive take on how to deal with what life throws at you'.
The charity raffle raised ?985.00 for the British Red Cross (Isle of Man), nominated by HSBC.
This brings the total of money raised by the Club’s charity raffles to over ?20 000, for local Manx charities, since the Club’s inception in 2006.
The next dinner, scheduled for Thursday 29 October will feature Green & Black co-founder and marketing expert Jo Fairley, at the Mount Murray Hotel & Country Club.
