British politicians are battling to lower taxation on betting in the UnitedKingdom, because they say offshore jurisdictions such as the Isle of Man are damaging the industry there.
Labour MP Alan Meale put a Commons Motion forward this week asking the government to lower taxes to allow firms to compete with offshores.
He says the UK betting industry pays 15% corporation tax, a 10% contribution to the horseracing levy and VAT, and is pointing out Manx firms can operate in the country while paying much lower taxes.
The motion, signed by a small group of MPs, asks the UK Government "to take action immediately to stop such unfair competition, which neither helps the British taxpayer nor the industry in which it operates".
