Junior Achievement Reaches Primary Schools

by isleofman.com 26th August 2009

Junior Achievement Isle of Man volunteers from the private, public and third sectors have been giving pupils at St Thomas’s School and Scoill Vallajeelt an insight into the world of work.

The volunteers were delivering modules from the Junior Achievement primary programme which, through structured play activity, introduces children to topics such as citizenship, trade, business communities, natural resources and geography and encourages numeracy and literacy skills.

The volunteers were drawn from AXA Isle of Man, Barclays Wealth, Britannia International, Capital International, Isle of Man Government, JA Isle of Man and Zurich International Solutions, together with gardener Lawrence Rea.

The sessions at Scoill Vallajeelt also provided an opportunity for JA Isle of Man acting chief executive Ron Spencer to trial the pilot programme Our Europe using prototype material.

Following feedback from volunteers, the programme will be adapted and refined for JA Isle of Man use.
