Law firm Moroneys marked the relocation to their new offices in The Old Court House, Athol Street, Douglas with a reception and official opening by His Honour Jack Corrin CBE on Tuesday, 1st September 2009.
Guests drawn from the Island’s legal, finance and business sectors gathered at the reception to hear Moroneys’ principal Louise Byrne say how she had had the privilege to work with Deemster Corrin earlier in her career.
Miss Byrne went on to say that the move from No 1 Mount Pleasant earlier this year marked the continued growth and development of Moroneys, which had achieved its preeminent position through maintaining high standards of service.
The new offices had been well received by both staff and clients and she added that, in tandem with the relocation, the firm would soon be launching its new website.
In his address, Deemster Corrin said that September 1st 2009 was the first time he had returned to the court house since 1996, a building with which he had been closely associated since 1949.
He remarked how the court house had formerly been a multi-purpose building and he recalled the many occasions during his legal career when he had been called to the police station ‘located in the bowels of the building’.
The new building was, he said, ‘a transformation’ and he was especially pleased that its original facade had been retained.
Moroneys’ founder Mark Moroney remains a consultant with the firm, an advocate who, said Deemster Corrin, had enjoyed ‘a long and distinguished career at the Manx Bar’.
In his closing remarks Deemster Corrin congratulated Miss Byrne and her team on the new offices, adding, "It’s good to see the firm going from strength to strength."
