Manx Telecom has received recertification from the British Approvals Board for Telecommunications (BABT) for the accuracy of its metering and billing systems.
Having it’s billing systems approved by the BABT is a considerable achievement for the company, as the independent BABT certification (which lasts for three years) is widely regarded as one of the most stringent in the world.
“We design all our systems to be as accurate as possible,” says Paul Atkinson, Revenue Assurance Manager of Manx Telecom, “but we are only too aware that our customers have no way of really knowing if their bills are correct.
This is why getting an independent assessment of our billing systems is so important in today’s competitive market. This assessment covers every aspect of our business, from mobile and fixed line services, to broadband services and private wired lines.
The certification is a very rigorous process and is the best assurance our customers could have that they are being asked to pay the right amount for the services we provide.”
Manx Telecom continually checks its systems for accuracy, sending hundreds of test calls across its network each day. These calls are 'real time' based for the accuracy of the system, and can give an early warning of potential problems which can be corrected, or of actual errors.
“Manx Telecom’s infrastructure constitutes one of the largest and most complex telecommunications and computer systems on the Island,” says Paul Atkinson.
"A lot could potentially go wrong, but when it comes to billing, we work to very high standards of accuracy, aiming for an error rate of less than 0.002%.”
Manx Telecom was one of the first companies outside of the UK to achieve this certification, and remains the only telecommunication company on the Isle of Man to be BABT approved.
