Women's Internal Network for Barclays Wealth

by isleofman.com 18th September 2009

As part of Barclays Wealth’s commitment to attract and retain the best people in the industry, the company has created a Women’s internal Network (WiN) branch in the Isle of Man which is being launched next week on 22nd September.

The Isle of Man representative will sit on the broader Barclays Wealth Committee and will help focus on initiatives important to colleagues in the Isle of Man.

The aim of the committee is to support women at work, promote flexible working arrangements which allow colleagues to manage commitments at home and work and to provide a network for female colleagues to support their development in the organisation as well as adding a unique contribution to the client base they cover.

The Isle of Man group is jointly headed up by Linda Bowers-Kasch and Nikki Taylor.  Through the network, they intend to create a forum that is inclusive and where people have a chance to talk openly.

The group will help colleagues develop their careers; provide opportunities to build their network and support women who want to return to work.

To celebrate the launch of the network on the Island, a launch event has been arranged for colleagues on the 22nd September at the Hilton Hotel from 5.30pm – 7.30pm.

The event will be attended by Barbara-Ann King (pictured), Head of Investments for Barclays Stockbrokers and chair of the Women’s internal Network.

Barbara Ann will speak about her experiences in supporting women at Barclays Wealth as a senior woman and the role that colleagues can play in making the network a success.

This informal event will give people the opportunity to join the network from the start and help shape and influence the direction of the local committee.

The event is open to all Barclays Wealth staff on the Island, men and women, as an all-inclusive network recognising the power of diverse teams.

Barbara-Ann King said, "I am delighted to be visiting the Isle of Man to help launch WiN on the Island.

"It goes without saying that the contribution women make to the workforce of a growing, ambitious and leading financial services company is of paramount importance and, as senior women in the industry, we are dedicated and committed to working to ensure that Barclays Wealth is the premier employer for women and hopefully our success then makes that better for men too.

"Our clients are diverse and it is critical that in these times in particular we address the need to have a representative work force."

The Isle of Man network is part of an international initiative which has been adopted throughout the Barclays organisation in many countries.

Craig Jones, MBE, Barclays Wealth’s Head of Diversity, said, "Diversity is a business priority and we are committed to being an organisation that values diversity and promotes the inclusion of all people who share the firm’s aspirations.

"We are committed to providing creative and innovative solutions for our clients and the attraction of world-class professionals enables us to fulfil that commitment.

"The WiN gives staff a great opportunity to network and find supportive people within the workplace to help them achieve their goals."
