On Wednesday 23rd September, a joint CPD (Continuing Professional Development) event was hosted by the Isle of Man Insurance and Financial Services Institute and the Securities and Investment Institute (SII).
The focus of the event, which took place at the Claremont, was a talk by Alan Lawrence, Northern Sales Director of Blackrock's Unit Trust Business and current President of the IOM Region of the SII.
Mr Lawrence's presentation, titled 'Absolute Return Investing', looked at how investing has come ever more under the spotlight as investors strive to outperform cash but without taking excessive risk.
Alan gave a highly informative explanation of how investment managers make money out of volatility and falling prices.
