Coast Serves Up Five Successful Years

by isleofman.com 8th October 2009

Coast Bar and Brasserie, at the Claremont Hotel in Douglas, recently held a VIP ‘late summer on the coast’ themed gala dinner to celebrate its 5th birthday.

Eighty guests came to dine at the seafront restaurant at the personal invitation of Mark Wilson and the Directors of Sleepwell Hotels (the restaurant's parent company).

The seven-course feast included cocktails designed by world-champion mixologist, Salvatore ‘The Maestro’ Calabrese, and a spectacular cupcake display from celebrity chef John Slattery of Slattery Patissier and Chocolatier.

Guests were then treated to live music from renowned lounge singer Ian Hooper.

Coast Bar and Brasserie at The Claremont opened in 2004. Since then, it has served half a million customers who have, collectively, consumed roughly 100,000 bottles of wine, 50,000 fillet steaks, 30,000 portions of Crispy Duck and 20,000 portions of Manx Queenies!

The restaurant's chefs use Manx produce where possible, serving the very best of what the Island has to offer.

As well as being a favourite with residents, Coast has received celebrity endorsement since its launch, with film stars Zac Efron, Johnny Depp and Bond girl Gemma Arterton all having dined there.

Coast recently appointed a new Executive Chef, Alan Steele.  Alan, who is 41 and originally from Scotland, has held a number of prestigious roles, including Head Chef of the Michelin-starred Duisdale Hotel restaurant on the Isle of Skye.

Prior to taking up his position at Coast, he was Head Chef at the Max Restaurant in Onchan.

Mark Wilson, Managing Director of Sleepwell Hotels, commented, "Reaching a five-year anniversary is a big achievement in restaurant terms, and particularly in the current economic climate. Coast has faired well and maintained its market share.

"In the next few weeks, our Executive Chef will be unveiling an exciting new menu as well as introducing an extended cocktail selection.

"Coast remains a timeless and stylish venue and we will not be looking to change a winning formula.

"Emphasis will be placed on introducing some new and contemporary dishes alongside recognised and established favorites, complemented by our quality wine selection.

"Now more than ever, people are looking for quality venues that provide consistent value for money.

"As long as we continue to provide excellent food and friendly service, I am confident Coast will be here in five years from now."
