Get Going for Business Entrepreneur Week

by isleofman.com 12th November 2009

The Isle of Man Business and Innovation Centre is marking Global Entrepreneurship Week (16th - 22nd November) with events on Wednesday 18th and Saturday 21st November.

During Global Entrepreneurship Week, thousands of events are run all over the world to encourage people to be entrepreneurial.

It creates mass participation and exposes people of all ages and abilities to quality enterprise experiences – from school students to university graduates, and from employees to the unemployed.

In the current economic climate, enterprising people are needed now more than ever: fresh thinkers who spot opportunities, apply their talents and overcome obstacles to make their ideas happen.

Global Entrepreneurship Week puts the spotlight on enterprise, reframes the recession as a time for entrepreneurial opportunity and connects people across the country and the world.

Kate Lord, Incubator Manager at the Isle of Man Business and Innovation Centre (IoM BIC), comments, "Entrepreneurs carry a vision.

"They have the energy to develop themselves, the capacity to innovate and to create employment.

"We need their dynamism and their success.  IoM BIC is keen to assist aspiring entrepreneurs to progress their ideas with our support on the Isle of Man.  Even if all you have is an idea, or just a willingness to get involved in something different, you can get involved."

Events organised by IoM BIC to tie in with Global Entrepreneurship Week include drop-in sessions and workshops at their new unit in Towerhouse, Douglas, (1st Floor, above Cafe) to promote the free business start-up services offered by IoM BIC and help local residents develop their ideas.

IoM BIC’s free support helps pre-start ups with potentially high growth business ideas; often these are technology, e-commerce or innovation based.

Information on IoM BIC's events can be found at www.gew.org.uk/events .

Pre-registration is required for the workshops on 18th November (Business Start Up -10.00 - 11.00 and Ideas to Reality -14.30 - 15.30). Contact info(at)iombic.im or telephone 01624 820930 for further information.

Last year, over three million people attended 25,000 events in seventy-seven countries, including Brazil, China, Russia, the USA, Nigeria and Germany.

In the UK alone, 644,000 people attended 6,363 events.
