Doorway to retail therapy

by isleofman.com 18th December 2009

The Strand Shopping Centre in Douglas has completed another phase of its planned refurbishment programme to coincide with its 20th anniversary celebrations which start next February.

New sliding doors have been fitted which have given the entrance way off Strand Street a much lighter and cleaner look.

Centre manager John Shakespeare said: ‘The old doors really were on their last legs and were not shutting properly and the door fittings and stanchions took up quite a bit of the actual potential opening space.

‘The new doors are much more energy efficient by way of operation and are going to help conserve heat inside the centre. The doors also give much more opening space which will allow the centre to be used for larger display products like cars.

‘We worked closely with The Garage Door & Gate Automation Company and Prospero to install the doors with minimum disruption to the centre and I am very pleased with the result which has really brightened the main entrance into the shopping centre.'
