Telecoms consultation in full swing

by isleofman.com 7th January 2010

The Island's Communications Commission is hoping the new year will bring a wide response to its plans for overhauling regulation of the industry.

Rules governing the Island's telecoms providers and broadcasters are said to be long out of date.

Just before Christmas, the commission launched a wide-ranging public consultation on how regulation should be modernised for the new decade and beyond.

The Isle of Man has been at the forefront of developments in mobile, fixed and broadband networks.

Director of the commission Dr Carmel McLaughlin says a new framework is needed to ensure the Island makes the most of the opportunities ahead (play audio file):

The consultation continues until February 11.

Responses from businesses and individuals are welcomed, and should be made in writing to the Communications Commission in Victoria Street, Douglas.
