Housebuilding figures up

by isleofman.com 27th January 2010

The Island’s construction industry saw a massive demand for new homes over the last year, according to figures from the National House Building Council.

The statistics for the last quarter of 2009 show applications for new homes in the UK 64 per cent up on 2008 – but here in the Isle of Man that figure is 246 per cent.

The NHBC says 345 applications were made between October and December 2009, compared to just 13 in 2008.

Only the North East of the UK saw a higher increase and an NHBC spokesman says it shows the construction industry is already recovering well after the economic downturn.
