The Isle of Man Insurance and Financial Services Institute held their annual dinner at the Mount Murray Hotel on 26th February 2010.
The annual dinner was attended by 253 guests in total and included Sue Gee, President of the Isle of Man Insurance and Financial Services Institute, Tony Brown, Isle of Man Chief Minister, Allan Bell, Isle of Man Treasury Minister and Barry Smith, President of the Chartered Insurance Institute.
Sue Gee, President of the Isle of Man Insurance and Financial Services Institute, welcomed the guests and thanked the Council, the members and the companies for their support of the Institute during 2009.
Sharon Sutton was awarded the prestigious Glynn Gilbert Award for academic excellence. She is the only person on the Island - and only 1 of 200 in the United Kingdom - to achieve such an accolade, by successfully gaining Chartered Financial Planner Status.
In the evening's closing address, Sue Gee said, "I believe opportunity comes out of difficult times, but for us to take advantage of these we have to be up for the fight – which can only be achieved with a real positive mindset and belief.
"The Isle of Man is a great place, with a wealth of opportunity for all of us, both individuals and organisations. What we need to do is lead from the front, ensure that everyone is on board, going in the same direction, and working towards the same positive outcome.
"On which note I hope to see you all at this same bus stop next year, having taken the opportunities that are presented to you, with the shared drive, tenacity and belief to overcome whatever obstacles stand in our way."
