The British Safety Council has awarded the Manx Electricity Authority highly coveted '5 Star status' following a major audit of the company’s health and safety organisation and management systems.
Chief Executive, Ashton Lewis said, "I am very proud of our reaccreditation to 5 Star status.
"All our staff work extremely hard in this area to ensure the Authority works to very clear global rules and procedures in order to ensure health and safety to both the workforce and the community it serves.
"The Authority was originally accredited with the 5 Star award in 2005 and the MEA remains the only organisation on the Island to have received this prestigious award by the British Safety Council."
Julie Nerney, Chief Executive of the British Safety Council, congratulated MEA on its achievement in securing 5 Star status one again.
She said, "The British Safety Council congratulates Ashton Lewis, the Chief Executive, Andy Cooil, the Health and Safety Manager and all of their MEA colleagues on once again securing 5 Star status following their recent successful health and safety audit.
"British Safety Council applauds MEA’s achievement in ensuring that the key components essential to good health and safety are in place - competent health and safety advice and expertise, strong leadership and a workforce playing its part in preventing ill-health and injury.
"We look forward to continuing to work in partnership with the MEA to ensure their workplaces continue to be safe and healthy."
The certificate was presented to Chairman Quintin Gill MHK by Neal Stone, Head of Policy and Public Affairs for the British Safety Council who travelled to the Island in order to make the presentation.
Mr Stone said, "MEA plays a leading role for the industry with the likes of E-on with its Health & Safety having gained a consistently high performance over the past 10 years. This is an exemplary result and fully justified".
