'Changes to MEDS will work'

by isleofman.com 14th April 2010

Health Minister David Anderson believes a more cost-effective approach to delivering MEDS, the Manx Emergency Doctor Service, will be acceptable.

There has been widespread concern after GPs said there was a plan to cut the overnight service, which runs between midnight and 8am.

Mr Anderson has said on more than one occasion that consultation has been taking place with staff and there is no 'done deal'.

He now says plans have been drawn up with the aim of saving money, but insists the care of patients will continue to be the top priority (play audio file):

A consultation period for GPs and other interested parties was extended, and the comments received will be examined.
