Minister explains hike in bouncer registration fee

by isleofman.com 21st May 2010

The cost of registering bouncers for pubs and clubs is set to rocket.

From July 1 the fee will go up from ?15 to ?85, after Tynwald approved the increase at this week's sitting.

It has been ?15 since 2002 when the register of security staff was introduced.

Home Affairs Minister Adrian Earnshaw said: 'The UK Criminal Record Agency will shortly be charging ?38 for a criminal record check.

'The introduction of a charge is as a result of changes to the way checks are carried out and to ensure the Isle of Man continues to have access to these checks.

'Knowing this charge was to be implemented, the Department of Home Affairs undertook a review of the process and costs of maintaining the security staff register.

'‘The Department was satisfied the process involved in maintaining the register was appropriate and recognised costs are now significantly greater than the revenue currently generated by the fees.'
