Riders agree with decision to postpone TT racing

by isleofman.com 9th June 2010
RACING on the TT course has been moved to tomorrow (Thursday) after organisers decided the conditions would not improve in time for the three scheduled events to take place.

Top riders were consulted and voiced strong opinions before the decision was taken at lunchtime to abandon the day’s race programme.

Heavy rain and low cloud, which were forecast to disappear just after noon, were still a problem late in the late afternoon and the entire programme was shifted to Thursday.

Amongst those in favour of scrapping the day’s racing was John McGuinness who said he and most of his fellow competitors were not in favour of going ahead, even if the weather showed signs of improvement.

“I rode in a wet race a few years ago and had a really big moment and almost went off the side of the mountain - and that’s not what this is all about. I would hate to end my career on a wet day at the TT.”

Keith Amor point-blank refused to race, even if it had gone ahead. “You would have to be off your head to go out in these conditions,” he said. “I’m not even putting my leathers on. I’m not racing today and that’s it.”

The Wednesday race programme now moves to Thursday. The prize presentation at the Villa Marina planned for tonight (Wednesday) has also been called off and will be rescheduled, although the precise date and time has not yet been decided.
