The Thomas Miller Group marked the 125th anniversary of its founding with a day of celebration.
It included a rugby academy coached by England rugby star Matt Dawson MBE, a dancing master class given by Strictly Come Dancing’s Darren Bennett and Lilia Kopylova and a gala dinner held in the Royal Hall at the Villa Marina.
The celebrations were part of a series of events held at various Thomas Miller office locations around the world to commemorate the 125th anniversary and guests at the dinner included representatives of the Island’s business and political communities who were welcomed by chairman of Thomas Miller Holdings Limited Hugo Wynn-Williams and other senior Thomas Miller executives.
Thomas Miller began by providing insurance services to the international transport and professional indemnity sectors - a business which it has specialised in and at which it has become a world leader.
Today it provides insurance services to approximately half the world’s leading ship owners and employs more than 530 people across four continents.
The Isle of Man office, which employs more than 45 people, is home to Thomas Miller Risk Management, Thomas Miller Investment, and Hellenic War Risks, all part of the Thomas Miller Group.
The grace at the dinner was given by Speaker of the House of Keys Steve Rodan and highlights of the evening included a spectacular display of dancing from Darren and Lilia and an after dinner speech by Matt Dawson.
There was also a charity auction and raffle in aid of The Children’s Centre, which Thomas Miller (Isle of Man) Limited will be supporting through 2010.
The evening ended with thanks from Ian Jarrett, Chairman of Thomas Miller (Isle of Man) Limited, who highlighted the company’s successful 22 years in the Island and paid tribute to the company’s staff and to the Island’s Manx entrepreneurial culture which he said had played a key role in Thomas Miller’s success over that time.
