by isleofman.com 13th July 2010

A WEEK of celebrations will be held to mark 20 years of the Strand Shopping Centre.

The centre, in Douglas, is the Island's longest established shopping centre.

A fun day will be staged on Saturday, August 7 and will include a variety of entertainment including music, free face painting, free balloons, clowns, Manx dancers and special in-store promotions.

As part of the fun the centre is building a "birthday bank vault" on the ground floor and from Monday, August 2 until Saturday, August 7 there will be the chance for the public to win cash prizes with a top prize of £1,000 on offer.

Centre manager John Shakespeare said: "The Strand has been an important part of the retail scene on the Isle of Man for 20 years and to mark this milestone we are a holding a week of celebrations in the centre.

"Over the last six months there have been many changes and upgrades to the centre and we would like to invite everyone on the Island to come and visit the centre and enter into our festivities.

"Hopefully you will notice a difference, not only with the new shops and café, but also to the more subtle differences like the real flowers, the new doors on Strand and Market Street, free Wi-Fi access, the new signage and the overall general ambience.

“The centre is committed to the Isle of Man and to giving its shoppers the best shopping experience possible. We’re looking forward to the next 20 years and the many exciting developments yet to come."

The centre is open seven days a week from 9am to 5.30pm Monday to Saturday and 12 Noon to 5pm on Sundays. For more information about the Strand Shopping Centre call 662411 or log onto www.thestrand.co.im
