PROFESSIONAL services and international wealth management business Maitland has celebrated its 20th anniversary in the Island.
An event was held at the Villa Marina, Douglas, which more than 140 guests - including major long standing clients, key government ministers and staff - attended.
It included a wine tasting competition featuring wines from across the world.
Earlier Chief Minister Tony Brown MHK gave a keynote address in which he praised Maitland’s achievements as one of the Island’s leading employers.
Maitland, which has roots in South Africa, first established offices in Hope Street, Douglas in 1990, initially with one lawyer and a secretary.
The firm grew rapidly and in 1996 relocated to Falcon Cliff overlooking Douglas Bay, where it now employs around 80 staff and provides cross-border expertise in legal advisory services, trust and corporate services and wealth management.
Maitland has more than 550 staff working from a dozen offices throughout Europe, South Africa and the Caribbean.
Group chairman Michael Solomon recognised the support Maitland had received from the Isle of Man Government over the years.
He said: "The willingness of its officials to discuss all issues, even contentious ones, in a transparent and constructive manner, makes us feel we are in partnership with government.
"This approach has also made it easy for us to encourage several of our clients to base their offshore operations here and many are still here today.
"The Isle of Man remains one of our key jurisdictions. We feel very much at home and our commitment is long term. Given the rate of growth Maitland has undergone in the Isle of Man during the last two decades, one can only imagine where we might be in another 20 years from now. It is an exciting prospect."
Mr Brown said Maitland should be proud of its achievements to date in the Isle of Man.
He said: "Your commitment to the Island's economy is very important and it is wonderful to see the success that you have had which has come about through a lot of hard work."
In terms of Maitland's Falcon Cliff premises he said: "It is such a magnificent, iconic building and it is tremendous to see that it is being used for such an important purpose. We wish Maitland continued success on the Isle of Man. Rest assured the government will do all that it can to ensure that the Island remains well placed in the global economy."
