E-gaming foundation course announced

by isleofman.com 9th September 2010

THE first ever e-gaming foundation course in the Island has been announced.

The e-gaming sector is the fastest growing sector in the Island and is now host to 25 active licence holders and employs more than 600 people in a myriad of different roles.

The course - launched by the Isle of Man Government's Department Of Economic Development and Hamblin Employment Group - has been designed for people wanting to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary for entry into the sector.

Held over three days - from September 21 - it consists of four modules designed to increase the participants' awareness and understanding of the e-gaming sector and how they might position and present themselves to a potential employer.

It has been written following research into what the larger e-gaming employers in the Island are specifically looking for from candidates.

The four modules are: What is e-gaming?, The ideal employee, risk and social responsibility and CV skills and interview techniques.

The Department for Economic Development is funding 50 per cent of each of the selected candidates' course fee for the first three groups.

Head of e-gaming development for the Department of Economic Development Garth Kimber said: "I am delighted that we have received such great support from the employers for this training.

"Lisa Underwood (e-Gaming development manager) has used her own experience in training and input from the industry to ensure that the Department of Economic Development and Hamblin can offer a fantastic opportunity to understand and learn the skills that some of the fastest growing businesses on the Island are keen to find."

Department of Economic Development political member representing e-Gaming Alex Downie MLC said: "Not only does this raise the profile of the industry both locally and further afield, but it is also a show of support for our existing employers in the sector and will assist them in increasing their employment of Manx workers."

Emma Allard, chief executive officer at Hamblin Emma Allard said: "We are delighted to be working in partnership with the Department of Economic Development and some of the major e-gaming companies here on the Island.

"Having the right attitude, work ethos and high levels of self-awareness are vital attributes to potential e-gaming employers.

"We hope that attending delegates will find that the course gives them a real advantage in securing work in the e-gaming industry."

The e-gaming foundation course will take place on September 21, 22 and 23 at St John’s Mill, Tynwald Mills. For more information visit www.igamingjobs.im
